Delete your DriveFiler account
You can delete your DriveFiler account, and everything DriveFiler holds about you, at any time. Your documents are not deleted — they stay in your own cloud drive.
How to delete your account
- Cancel your subscription first, if you have one. Sign in at app.drivefiler.com and use Cancel subscription. Billing is handled by our payment provider, and we cannot delete an account while its subscription is still set to renew — otherwise you would go on being charged for an account that no longer exists.
-
Open the delete page. Any of these takes you there:
- on the web, app.drivefiler.com → Delete my account;
- in the Android app, Overview / Settings → My Data → Delete my account;
- in the Windows app, Utilities → Delete My Data.
-
Enter your password and type
DELETEto confirm. Only the account owner can do this.
Can't sign in? Send us a request through the contact form from the email address on your account. We will confirm it is you and delete the account within 30 days.
When it happens, and how to undo it
Nothing is deleted straight away. The deletion is scheduled for 7 days after you ask, and we email you at once with a link to call it off. Signing in to DriveFiler at any point during those 7 days also cancels it. That delay is what protects you if somebody else ever gets into your account and asks for this.
Once the 7 days are up, the deletion is permanent. It cannot be undone by us or by you, and we send one last email to say it is done.
What is deleted
- Your sign-in: your password and any authenticator app or recovery codes.
- Your name, email address and postal address.
- The record of which cloud drive you connected, and the devices you signed in on.
- All of your categorization: vendors, accounts, document types, owners, assets, tags, comments, and the record of which document is which.
What we keep
- Billing and tax records, for as long as tax law requires — typically six years. Our payment provider, Paddle, keeps its own records of your payments.
- A record of which version of our Terms you accepted, and when.
Neither lets anyone sign in, and neither contains your categorization.
Your documents stay yours
DriveFiler never stores your documents. They are in your own OneDrive, Dropbox or Google Drive, already filed into folders under readable names, and deleting your DriveFiler account does not delete them.
On Google Drive, take a copy before you delete. There, DriveFiler files your
documents into Google's private application storage, which Drive does not show you — so after
your account is deleted there is no way to open them from Drive itself. Run Export My
Documents to Google Drive in either app first: it copies everything into an ordinary
folder in your My Drive that is yours to keep. On OneDrive and Dropbox there is nothing to do
— the Apps/DriveFiler folder is yours to browse either way.
More about Google Drive.
If you want a copy of your categorization before it goes, either app can export it to a spreadsheet: Utilities → Export My Categorization (CSV) on Windows, or Overview / Settings → My Data → Export my categorization on Android.
